The ongoing parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region has been marred with violence as an irate member of the party, Nana Yaw Darko, narrowly escaped stab wounds after a fellow party member attacked him with a knife.

The primary in the constituency was called off last year over security concerns.

Nana Frimpong, an agent of one of the parliamentary aspirants, Mr Basil Ahiable, was involved in a heated argument with Yaw Darko.
According to reports, Frimpong pulled out a knife and chased Darko but other party members present at the Akwatia Lorry Park Polling Station overpowered him and seized the knife.

Security officials who were present during the incident in their attempt to arrest the irate supporter.
A total of 8,000 members of the NDC are expected to cast their ballot in a contest between incumbent MP Baba Jamal and a businessman Basil Ahiable.
