I won't resign for making partisan comment – SA High Commissioner

The Minority has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack him over his shameful partisan comment.

According to the Minority, his statement is a breach of the constitution which provides equal opportunity for all Ghanaians.

But he [George Boateng] asked the Minority to go to court.

Partisan comment

According to him, it was through the sweat of party members which gave the NPP victory in the 2016 elections thus was the right thing to do.

Addressing some members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) at a ceremony to usher in fresh students of Kumasi Technical University into the network over the weekend,he said: “The job market is choked and it is highly competitive and this government is doing its best to create job opportunities [but] me for instance I told my people that it is NPP that is why I am in power so NPP man is my priority.

"My topmost priority is the problem of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it and indeed I am not boasting," Mr. Boateng added.

Okudzeto condemns

The Minority Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the commissioner must resign honorably or be sacked by President Akufo-Addo.

He said "Ideally, he should resign and apologize to Ghanaians, and to the President for betraying the trust that was reposed in him. He should be doing the honorable thing, but we know that in this our country, that does not happen quite often… The foreign minister, the president, must recall him with immediate effect…It is clear that this mindset cannot represent Ghana."

I told them when NDC was in power it was Kwesi Ahwoi who was there, now we are in power, so Ayisi-Boateng is here with you. My topmost priority is the problems of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it," he added.

"His comment is reprehensible, unacceptable and must be condemned by all of us. The constitution demands of all public officers to be fair, and treat all Ghanaians equally. The High Commissioner to South Africa is Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, not the NPP’s High Commissioner. He is paid from the taxes of all Ghanaians, NPP, NPP, CPP, and everyone.

"He said he was there to prioritize NPP members and others can wait. It is shocking. It is shocking he said there were some people who were more Ghanaian than others," Ablakwa said.

I won't resign

George Ayisi Boateng has asked persons criticizing him and calling for his head to use legal means to do so, insisting he won’t resign.

"Those calling for my dismissal should go to court...I am not Honourable and he can go to court for my dismissal," he said.

According to him, he means nothing bad to have said, appointees of the government must give much attention to NPP members in terms of jobs and other benefits.

"Worse things even happened under the late President Mills...He is also on record to have directed his appointees then to pay attention to NDC members at the time," he said in an interview on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.
