Show kindness and generosity to opponents - Akufo-Addo urges supporters

Akufo-Addo, who was addressing Ghanaians at a praise and thanksgiving service Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, said such "misconduct" and "altercation" is "unbecoming of us."

His statement came following widespread abuse, trolls and violent attacks on NDC supporters and celebrities who campaign for President John Mahama's failed re-election bid.

In his second condemnation of the attacks, Akufo-Addo  asked his followers to act with kindness toward their opponents and forgive those who may have hurt them.

He said: "I do recognise that there have been some instances of misconduct and altercations that should not happen. Such behaviour is unbecoming of us.

He added: "I call on all Ghanaians, everyone, to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity toward one another and forgive anyone who may have hurt you. Remember, the battle is still the lords"

His criticism of the attacks on NDC supporters comes on the heels of concerns raised by President John Mahama that supporters of his party are under siege from NPP members.

According to the outgoing president, he expects NPP supporters to be magnanimous with their victory.

Scores of senior statesmen and peace building bodies have also denounced the attacks, urging the police to be tough on those who offend the law.

The police, in the last update of the matter, said scores of offenders have bee arrested and arraigned before the court.
