Manhyia backs Mawerehene for Council of State

A special college is expected to elect 10 people --one from each region-- in addition to 10 other people to be appointed by the president, to constitute the council.

The Manhyia Palace has thrown its weight behind Otumfou's Mawerehene, Nana Baffuor Hyeaman VI, to be elected as Council of State member from the Ashanti Region.

So far, the election has been postponed due to an amendment of the local government act which has seen the revocation of government appointees who form part of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

Addressing the media Saturday at the Manhyia Place, Secretary to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Kofi Owusu Boateng, said the Mawerehene has been cleared by Otumfuo to represent the interest of Manhyia at the seat of government.
