Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey, a suspended member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed that every single register used since 1992 has been bloated and that Ghanaians must not worry too much about the register if it is bloated.

Speaking at a forum to debate the arguments for and against the compilation of a new voters' register for the 2016 general elections, Dr Wereko Brobbey said, he is biased that he is not for a new register or a cleansed register.
According to him, "The human element has the biggest influence in the way in which political parties deliberately seek an advantage."

He stated that political parties are quick to blame the EC when they believe something has gone wrong.
"We have had new registers,we have had cleansed registers, the difference is the same – bloated registers," he added.
"Since every single register has been bloated, he asks why is the current register being singled out?, he asked.
He said evidence must be shown and established before any action is taken on the current register.

"The proof does not come from the alleging party saying ‘believe me or trust me’. Evidence is needed to prove that the technical base of the E.C been compromised as alleged by the NPP," he stated.

"We need convincing proof that what you are proposing will make things better" Wereko-Brobby said.
Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey pointed out that, it is not a simple argument or cleansed register and a new register.
He believes many are not taking a historical perspective on elections on the current debate.

A five-member panel set up by the Electoral Commission will conduct the public hearings over the next two days.
Political parties and civil society groups which have sent proposals to the EC over the demand for a new register are expected to appear before the panel to justify their positions.
Others against the call for a new register would make their case why the current register must be maintained.
Chairman of the five-member panel, His Lordship Professor V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe has said the voter register is not the responsibility of the EC.

He further assured members at the forum that their views will be heard and the report be submitted to the EC.
