GHC 70m retrieved from corruption - Mahama

Despite Ghana’s good governance and democratic credentials, corruption still remains cancerous in the country.

President John Mahama

Government has revealed it has so far retrieved about GHc 70 million from various corruption scandals in the country.

President John Mahama who announced this in Accra at the Flagstaff House noted that the fight against corruption must take a multi-agency effort, not the concern of one single organisation.

He said the Attorney General's department is working hard to retrieve the money that has been lost in corruption scandals stating that the "AG has saved Ghana hundreds of millions of dollars, as part of judgement debt, in defending us."

Corruption in Ghana is not just a mere perception but inherently pervasive in the country as evidenced by the recent exposé by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which has resulted in the dismissal of 20 Judges and the controversial re-branding of 116 Metro Mass Transit buses at the value of GHC 3.6 million.

According to the President, "About GHC 70m has been retrieved from corruption cases in Ghana."...Corruption is often measured by perception, it's perception is often greater than the reality."
