Ghana signs deal with US on joint security
Ghana and the United States on Thursday, February 18 signed a Security Governance Initiative (SGI) deal to improve maritime security, border management and cyber crime in Ghana.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Accra, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hannah Tetteh said the initiative will “support [Ghana] to build capacity in these areas to be able to deal with the overlap that exists between Ministries, Departments and Agencies in terms of their overlapping mandates.”
The $65 million deal, is an initiative ofUS President Barack Obama that offers an enhanced approach to security in partner African countries namely Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Tunisia.
US Ambassador Robert Jackson at the signing ceremony was grateful to the National Security Coordinator, Yaw Donkor, for his time and commitment.

“We thank the Government and people of Ghana for your commitment to partnering with the United States in pursuit of stronger and more accountable security institutions.
“We are excited about the work we are embarking on together,” Mr Jackson said.
