Couple assault niece with hot machete in WR

The victim, whose parents are said to have all died some years ago is said to have accompanied a neighbor to farm but could not returned home early.

 

The celebration of the global day to end violence against women and children yesterday was greeted with impunity in the Ellembelle district of the western region  when 28 year old Monica Kabenla and her husband whose name is only given as Emma whipped their 8-year-old niece  Rose Quesi Ebah with hot machete at Mauzukro a community near Essiama.

The victim, whose parents are said to have all died some years ago is said to have accompanied a neighbor to farm but could not returned home early.

According to a journalist Lydia Mensah who drew the attention of the police upon hearing the case told Citi News that Monica Kabenla and her husband Emma who are said to have been found of maltreating Rose could not fathom why she should stay with the neighbor for such a time in the farm before coming home, tied the hands of Rose who has dropped out of school while the husband beat her with the hot machete.

Lydia Mensah reported the matter to the Esiama district police command leading to the arrest of Monica Kabenla while the husband after committing the barbaric act then went large through a nearby bush.

Monica Kabenla who attempted suicide while at the police station has been put under strict surveillance at the Esiama district police headquarters pending prosecution tomorrow while Rose Quesi Ebah is responding to treatment at the Essiama Community Health center.
