The Minority in Parliament has challenged the management of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to publish the list of some 16,839 beneficiaries whose names were deleted last week.

According to the opposition MPs, the deletion exercise was deliberately conducted to rid the payroll of persons employed in the previous administration.

Addressing a news conference in Accra Thursday, Deputy Minority leader, James Avedzi Klutse said there is no evidence to support the Agency’s claim that the affected beneficiaries are 'ghosts'.

“We are placing on record the Justin Kodua Frimpong management is complicit in the numbers being thrown into the media as ghosts,” he said.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Justin Frimpong recently announced the deletion of the names of 16,839 out of the Agency’s 63,000 beneficiary list.

According to him, the action was taken after an internal audit was conducted and that the country has been saved over 20 million cedis as a result.

Of this number, 2,716 beneficiaries did not have appointment letters while another set 4,681 people had vacated their posts but were receiving salaries. 9,442 beneficiaries were also not within the age range required to be part of the youth employment initiative.

According to Frimpong, the agency will make a decision about the fate of beneficiaries without letters of appointments within a month.

But the Minority lawmakers said the claims by the Agency are untrue.

They indicated that there are paper and digital trails for the new management to establish the identity of the beneficiaries before going ahead with the exercise.

“At YEA there is a complete digital trail of all money from Bank of Ghana to the bank account of all the youth engaged in the youth module which could be accessed.”

“The YEA district directors in conjunction with their colleague district directors of education, health, fire service, Prisons, police interviewed each of the beneficiaries and there is a paper trail as well so if anybody wants to identify any beneficiary they can easily be traced,” Mr Klutse said.

He further dared the new management of YEA to publish the audit report which came out of its internal audit for the public to be aware of its content.
