Adebayor salutes Asamoah Gyan on record setting spree

Skipper of the Togo national team, Emmanuel Adebayor has hailed Asamoah Gyan for his enviable achievement as a footballer

Gyan, 31 has represented Ghana in three FIFA World Cups and appeared in six Africa Cup of Nations. He is African greatest scorer at the World Cup, with six goals and is Ghana's all-time topscorer in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with eight goals.

Gyan is also the first player after  Smuel Eto'o to score in six consecutive Africa Cup of Nations, coupled with being Ghana's all-time topscorer and most capped player, with 49 goals and 98 caps respectively.

Adebayor has saluted the Ghana legend as he gets closer to scoring his 50th goal and make a century appearance for the Black Stars.

"I think everyone knows Asamoah Gyan. He's not a friend but a brother [because] I know everyone in his family and that shows how close we are," Adebayor told Metro TV.

"Sometimes, people forget who we were [as players] and what we have done in our careers and just think about yesterday. They don't remember what you have done ten years ago.”

"If Gyan has played in three separate World Cup editions that means he has been consistent in the last twelve years and a lot of big players have not done that in their careers so hats down for Asamoah Gyan.

"He should keep scoring goals and not stop now because he has got a lot couple of years ahead. He should keep making Ghana and Africa proud and we are proud of him."

Gyan could be handed the opportunity to increase his goal tally and also add to the number o caps, he has made for country, as the Black Stars prepare for their final group D clash against Egypt on Wednesday.
