Thomas Teye Partey was named Man of the Match in Ghana’s slender win over Mali in their second Group D match on Saturday.

The Atletico Madrid man was the stopper in midfield for the Black Stars and embarked on a string of forays which created panicking moments for the Malian midfield.

His strength, agility and finesse caught the eyes of the CAF Techincal Study Group.

Partey is playing in his first tournament after an impressive season with his Spanish La Liga side.

A solitary Asamoah Gyan goal was enough for Ghana to see off Mali 1-0 and book their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

The Black Stars captain handed his side the victory after scoring in the 21st minute when he headed home a Jordan Ayew cross and 2015's losing finalists successfully held on for the remainder.
