We can't afford $8,000 bonus for Rwanda game - Sports Ministry

Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has stated that the Black Stars should be paid $3,000 for a win against Rwanda

The foreign-based players of the Black Stars volunteered to foot their airfares for the tie against Rwanda after the Sports Ministry said they are cash-strapped, so can’t afford the tickets.

According to Vincent Oppong Asamoah, the Black Stars should be paid something in the region of $3,000 if they beat Rwanda because the game has no bearing on Ghana’s qualification to the AFCON

“We can’t pay the usual $8,000; we pay for a win. We wanted to invite local players because of our finances at the moment. If you ask me I would say that they should be paid $3,000 for a win against Rwanda

“We will pay them the per-diems and also approve for hotels, but we can’t afford the $8,000," the Deputy Sports Minister told Adom FM.

It would be recalled that Ghana have already qualified for the 2017 AFCON, so the final hurdle against Rwanda on Saturday is for mere academic exercise.
