Black Stars vice-captain to miss Mozambique games

Andre Ayew will not play in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Mozambique after Avram Grant left his vice-captain out of the squad

The Swansea City player prior to his clubs English Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth sustained a knock on his ankle.

The injury saw him miss the 3-2 loss for his team last weekend. Swansea City caretaker boss Alan Curtis confirmed Andre Ayew had sustained an injury and was a major doubt for Saturday’s game against younger brother Jordan Ayew’s Aston Villa.

The manager said the Ghana international had made a trip to France to receive treatment and should be fine after the international break.

“It's probably going to be a couple of weeks. He [Andre Ayew] just turned his ankle. He's probably doubtful for the Villa game,” Alan Curtis explained.

The Black Stars of Ghana play Mozambique in the international break and head coach Avram Grant, naming his squad on Wednesday left out the former Olympique Marseille player.

The former Chelsea boss however did recall Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey who has had trouble with the Black Stars team since the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.

Samuel Tetteh of WAFA and Richard Ofori of Wa All Stars were the two locally based players called by Avram Grant for the Mozambique games.
