Sofiane Boufal succeeds Black Stars vice-captain as best African player in France

Morocco international Sofiane Boufal has been named the best player in the French Ligue 1

Andre Ayew who played in the French Ligue 1 for Olympique Marseille before making a transfer move to England’s Swansea City won the Marc-Vivien Foe award last season.

Sofiane Boufal however won this year to be the third Moroccan to win the prize as the 22-year-old beat competition from Algeria and Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal and Seneg28 al and Angers Cheikh N’Doye to win the best African Player in the French Ligue 1.

Sofiane Boufal made 29 league appearances for Lille in the season under consideration, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists.

Boufal made his international debut for Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Cape Verde in March 2016.

The annual award for the best African player in the French league was named after Cameroon international Marc-Vivien who died at the age of 28 due to a heart attack.
