Okocha arrives in Ghana for StarTimes and Bundesliga legends tour

Jay Jay Okocha has arrived in Ghana as a StarTimes ambassador for the German Bundesliga.

Pay-TV operators StarTimes Group have secured the broadcast rights to telecast the German Bundesliga for the next three years. As part of a campaign to gain more grounds and to promote the German league in Ghana, StarTimes are organizing a tour for former players who played in the Bundesliga.

The progamme dubbed “StarTimes Bundesliga Legends Tour – Ghana” is meant to take legends who plied their trade in the German topflight around Ghana to help increase viewership of the Bundesliga.

StarTimes have already signed a 10-year deal worth $17,950,000 with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to broadcast the Ghana Premier League, the Gala, the MTN FA Cup, the Ghana Women’s League and the Ghana Juvenile league. The media broadcast company also has exclusive broadcast rights to the International Champions Cup (ICC), the French Ligue 1 and the Chinese Super League (CSL).

And in a bid to increase the viewership of the German Bundesliga in Ghana, StarTimes has invited former Nigerian international Austin Jay Jay Okocha – who serves as a Bundesliga ambassador for the broadcast company – to partake in the tour.

“I’ve been to Ghana so many times that I can’t even remember. I’ve got friends here [in Ghana], I feel at home here and here is like a second home as well [for me]”, he said.

“I’m familiar with Accra so I know I will have a great time with the programme. I’m motivated and I’m prepared so I’m looking forward to the programmes that we’ve got today.”

The StarTimes Bundesliga Legends Tour will end on Tuesday with the Nigerian legend scheduled to partake in a series of programmes lined up by StarTimes. Okocha played for German side Eintracht Frankfurt for four years between 1991 and 1996 scoring 16 goals in 90 appearances.
