Medeama faces Al Shendy in a dicey game

Ghana Premier League team Medeama SC host Al Shendy in the CAF Confederation Cup after a draw away from home

Medeama SC need a simple win over Al Shendy to make the second and final round of 16 stage, before dreaming of qualification into the group stage on the CAF Confederation Cup which eluded them in 2014.

The Tarkwa based side held the Shendy club to a goalless draw in the first leg in Sudan and must avoid any scoring draw or worst still a defeat to keep their hopes of reaching the group stage alive.

Wednesday's match is a new initiative by CAF to introduce mid week inter club matches across the continent and Ghana's remaining club will host their Sudanese opponent at the Sekondi stadium at 3pm.

Coach of Medeama, Tom Strand reckons the match is still open to both teams to grab the opportunity.

"I see it as an interesting ground to work from, it's an open game, it's an interesting match. For those who will come to watch it, I think we can give them a lot of excitement so I think they really should come and watch us" he told Pulse.com.gh

"If they (Shendy) make one goal, we have to make two and if they make two goals, we have to make three. So definitely the result (in the first leg) is very interesting because it makes the game more open and more fragile. It depends if you want to take the risk or if you want to play safe or how you want to approach the game".

Medeama have had time to recover and prepare for the match since their 2-0 derby defeat to Hasaacas last Thursday in the league. They were also not in action at the weekend in the FA Cup round of 32 matches following their elimination at the round of 64 stage by Liberty Professionals.

That not withstanding, there is the pressure of winning on Strand's young team. However, the Swedish trainer is confident about his players readiness.

"I think they are more than ready. They are in good shape, they are looking fresh, we have some players back from injuries so the team is good" he said.
