MP wants regional promotion of clubs to Ghana premier League

The Member of Parliament for Bawku West constituency has urged the sports minister designate to champion regional promotion of clubs to the Ghana Premier League

Cletus Avoka has advised Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the Sports Minister designate to ensure that all the 10 regions in Ghana would have a representation in the Ghana Premier League.

The Ghana Premier League is made up of 16 clubs. Three division one league clubs who top their respective zones earn promotion to replace the last three teams in the Ghana Premier League, after the close of every season.

However, Cletus Avoka believes that football would help unearth local talent and offer jobs to the people if promotion and relegation is done on regional basis, with each of the 10 regions getting a representation.

“Nii Lantey Vandepuye having followed football knows the business benefit of sports, so I am urging him to ensure that promotion to the Ghana Premier League is done on regional basis.

“Each of the 10 regions should have a club in the league and when a club from a region is relegated another from the same region should replace that club.

“There are a lot of talents that would be unearthed through that,” he said this at the floor of parliament on Wednesday.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye would have to be confirmed to officially take over from Dr. Mustafa Ahmed as the sports minister.
