Coaches who could replace Asante Kotoko coach

David Duncan has come under huge pressure for the football his team's playing this season and he may be sacked soon.

There seems to be a division of opinion over whether or not David Duncan should remain on Asante Kotoko's' bench until the end of the season, but who would replace him?

Duncan was sacked by mangement of the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday evening, a decision that is still not pproved by the board of the club, according to reports.

Now, whether Duncan is shown the door now or later on, the Porcupine Warriors' management will still have to consider their options, and there are a few names they may look at to replace him.

Here are some options

1. Bashir Hayford

A former Kotoko boss, who has been linked in some quarters with a return to Oseikrom.

Hayford guided Kotoko to a Premier League title in his first spell in charge before being sacked the same year in 2008.

The heavily-experienced coach is currently the head coach Ghana champions Ashantigold, and led them to their first league triumph last season in 18 years.

Even the life Patron and owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu Otumfuo opined in December last year that he would go back for Coach Bashiru Hayford.

“Bashiru Hayford is a Kotoko coach. He is my coach. So let him know that at the appropriate time I will come back for him,” he said.

"Top class football will always be attractive. Lately there have been offers coming my way, but there hasn't been anything I wanted to take straight away. We will see. We will have to wait."

2. Kwesi Appiah

Another name under consideration with the OseiKrom job is former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah.

Appiah, who was former player of Kotoko, burst onto the management scene after receiving technical training from English clubs Manchester City and Liverpool.

The 55-year-old was Ghana's assistant coach between 2007 and 2012, and was appointed as the head coach of the team in April 2012. He led the Black Stars o the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, making him the first black African coach to take the country to the World Cup.

Appiah left his job in charge of Ghana by mutual consent in September 2014, and three months later, took over Sudanese club SC Khartoum on a two-year contract.

His experience - playing and managing - lies solely in Ghana and he would certainly be a left field choice to succeed Duncan should he depart.

3. Tom Strand

The latest name to enter the frame is Medeama coach Tom Strand.

Reports suggest that the Spaniard could become the club's latest interim boss, who would be parachuted in as a "firefighter" in a similar way Didi Dramani was used.

Tom Strand had an impressive season in which he won the MTN FA cup by beating Asante Kotoko in the finals, having defeated Hearts in the semi-finals despite taking over the Yellow and Mauves within just a year.

4. Godwin Alblordey

Cut Godwin Ablordey open and you'd see pure Kotoko red running all the way through him.

The 'captain, leader, legend' is about as much of a hero as it's possible to be with the fans, and would certainly unite them if he was given the top job.

Lack of managerial or coaching experience would obviously count against him - and would Otumfour really hand the keys to the manager's office over to a complete novice?

5. Thomas Muller Nielsen.

The Danish coach was touted to replace Duncan in September after reportedly agreeing a two-year deal to join Kotoko. The Danish tactician was even at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to watch Kotoko slip to defeat against AshantiGold in the Otumfour Cup last year. However Kotoko vehemently denied.
