However, the result was marred even more by the injury of influential striker.

Ghana’s skipper was unable to finish the game against the Pharaohs due to a muscle injury sustained early in the game.

The striker raced down the flanks to gather a long ball, but was unable to continue due to a muscle strain.

Gyan – who was replaced by Jordan Ayew – later admitted that “I felt pain in my abductor and I knew it was bad”.

And though the extent of the striker’s injury is yet to be known, Grant insists things look bad at the moment.

“[Gyan’s injury] is not looking so good but Gyan is a very strong boy. We will need to wait and see. He has to go for scans and then we will know better,” Grant said in the post match interview.

The on-loan Al Ahli attacker is set to go for MRI scans on Thursday to ascertain the extent of his injury.

Gyan has made 100 appearances for the Black Stars since making his debut, and has scored 49 goals so far.

Ghana now faces an anxious wait to see if the striker will be fit enough for the quarter-final encounter against DR Congo on Sunday.
