Asamoah Gyan left Ghanaians in shock after he announced his retirement from international football citing the issue of captaincy as the reason for him to bow out with few days to the start of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Gyan explained in a statement announcing his retirement that he can’t continue to play for the Black Stars while another player replaces him as the captain of the four times champions of Africa.
