Ghana prepared to host CHAN 2018 – Sports Ministry

The Sports minister believes Ghana is ready to host the 2018 CHAN tournament.

According to him, Ghana’s successful organisation of the just-ended West African Football Union (WAFU) cup is enough evidence that the country can take up the mantle host the CHAN tournament.

On Saturday CAF president Ahmad Ahmad confirmed that Kenya has been stripped off the hosting rights due to a combination of political unrest and inadequate preparation.

The development led to rumours that Ghana is preparing to bid for the hosting rights of the tournament, in order to replace Kenya.

And despite GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi insisting nothing has been decided yet, sports minister Isaac Asiamah believes Ghana has all it takes to successfully replace the East African country as hosts of next year’s CHAN tournament.

“As a country we are ready to host any CAF organized tournament. We did well in hosting the WAFU tournament without any bad report. The Fox sports people were happy with the whole organization including the infrastructures we used,” the sports minister told the media in the aftermath of Sunday’s WAFU Cup final.“Almost Cape Coast alone has been able to host the WAFU. We have Tamale sports stadium, Kumasi sports stadium and the renovation of Accra sports stadium will start this year so Ghana stands at any point in time to host any CAF tournaments.”
