Avram Grant and his player needed just a point to seal a place in next year’s tournament going into the qualifier against Mauritius away from home.

Andre Ayew led the senior national team of Ghana in the absence of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan who was not named in Grant’s squad for the qualifiers.

The first half of the game ended in a goalless draw but not from the lack of attacks from the Black Stars.

Frank Acheampong could have got a goal in the first half for Ghana but the Anderlecht player decided to pass Andre Ayew which ruined the attack.

Afriyie Acquah who had also dominated the midfield with Mubarak Wakaso came close but his effort was brilliantly saved by the Mauritius goalkeeper.

The second half was more purposeful from the Black Stars with the Mauritius backline struggling to deal with Christian Atsu, Frank Acheampong and Andre Ayew.

Captain on the day Andre Ayew however made the domination count when he scored the first goal of the game in the 71st minute to put Ghana ahead.

Christian Atsu combined with Chelsea teammate Abdul Baba Rahman to put Ghana 2-0 up, a scoreline which proved to be the final scoreline in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
