The head coach role of the club became vacant after the Accra giants parted ways with Sergio Traguil getting to the end of  last season’s Ghana Premier League before Yaw Preko who took over as caretaker boss also left.

Ahead of the start of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League, fans of the club are worried regarding the club’s inability to appoint a substantive head coach – though the likes of Milisav Bogdanovic from Serbia, former Aduana Stars trainer Cioba Aristica and ex-Medeama SC tactician Tom Strand have all been linked to the job.

But the hard working board member and former National Chapters Committee Chairman (NCC) has insisted that the club is not in a hurry to appoint a new coach.

“We are not rushing to appoint a new coach. We have an assistant coach in the person of Henry Wellington and he has been preparing the team for the upcoming season,” Akanbi told

“We don’t want to rush to do things, I can tell you that we have more than 50 coaches who have applied for the job, so we have to take our time to appoint a competent coach. We know the supporters are worry but they should keep calm.”

On the club’s recruitment, Akanbi said:

“We have signed some players and they are really doing well especially with their outputs in the just ended G6 competition. We are still looking forward to get one or two players to augment the team before the season starts.”
