Kotoko stop Wa All Stars in Kumasi

The Porupine Warriors produced sensational display in the second half to edge Wa All Stars by a goal to nil in Kumasi.

Wa All Stars prior to the game had gone five league games without a defeat and had won their past 3 games, while the Porcupine Warriors had won 1, lost 1 and drawn 1 in their last three league games.

It was an end to end game in the first half, but the Wa lads slightly dominated play and looked dangerous upfront with Emmanuel Ocran leading the attack. Kotoko also came into the game from time to time through Bennett Ofori and Obed Owusu making some incursions.

Asante Kotoko, seem to have listened to instructions from their head coach Michale Osei during the half time break, hence pushed everything upfront in search of the victory in the second half.

Wa All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori displayed good goalkeeping to keep his team in the game, but Asante Kotoko who were determined to earn a revenge against the visitors for their first round defeat pushed harder and finally broke the deadlock.

Former Berekum Chelsea defender, Samuel Kyere’s long free-kick was headed home by Amos Frimpong in the 67 minute to give his side all the three maximum points. Frimpong was the same person who snatched the equaliser for Kotoko against Techiman City in the weekend to earn the Porcupine Warriors one point.

Wa All Stars after conceding the goal quickly threw everything upfront to get the equaliser, but the Kotoko defence men were resolute to protect their goal line.

Dauda Mohammed presented with a cheque of Ghc 1,000 for emerging as the Kotoko Player for the month of May.

The Kotoko fans who trooped in to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to watch their idol club play weren’t happy with the level of officiating in the game when their calls for penalties were ignored by centre referee Kennedy Paddy and his assistants.
