Real Bolga United wins Zida U-15 championship

Real Bolga United beat Bolga All Stars Babies 1-0 to emerge winners of that category. Coming into the match, Bolga All Stars Babies were hot favorites to win it having gone unbeaten throughout the group stage. They also beat tournament favorites Soccer Masters 3-2 in the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Real Bolga United qualified from their group with just four points and were on the back foot for most of the final game against Bolga All Stars Babies, having being pegged back into defending by their dominant opponents.

Bolga All Stars Babies wasted a lot of goal scoring opportunities whilst hitting the woodwork on two different occasions. They were later on punished for their wastefulness in front of goal as Real Bolga United scored from their only attempt on goal in the entire match.

It was with a well-executed free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box by their skipper Baba Iddrisu in the 90th minute. This turned out to be the last kick of the match.

In the U13 category Kayonga King Faisal set an enviable record as the team to beat next year. They beat every team on their way to winning their category. The Kayonga based side won all their group matches, before going on to beat Garu Soccer Stars 2-1 to win the U13 category with a 100% record.

Soe Soccer Masters were also crowned champions of the U11 division after they beat Young Gambigo Ashford FC 2-0 in the final.

In the women division, Vea Future Queens walked home with the ultimate prize after beating Bolga All Stars Ladies 1-0 in the final.

All the winners and runners-up took home a set of jerseys and a giant trophy, with the third-placed winners walking home with a set of Jerseys as well.

Each participating team was also rewarded with a football. However, Management of Bolga All Stars FC donated their jerseys won at the tournament to Real Builsa Ladies and Yelwoko Wingers Stars.

Some individual awards were handed to deserving players as well, with Bafama Caleb adjudged U-11 best player. Aduko Michael won the best player of the U-13 category. Abubakar Samed was also adjudged the best player of the U-15 category and Abubakar Abigail also walked home as the best player in the Women division.

The Zida Juvenile Tournament is a tournament put together by the owner and bankroller of Bolga All Stars FC, Salifu Zida as a way of nurturing young talents for the upper East region.

This year's tournament marks the 10th Anniversary. The games lasted one week. From 21st to 27th December 2018.
