Goals from summer signing Jorginho, Ngolo Kante and Pedro were enough to hand the Blues a big win at John Smith Stadium.

The Premier League is finally back, and as expected there were some mouthwatering fixtures that were played out over the weekend.

It’s been three months since the last season ended, but match-day one of the 2018/19 season suggests this could be one of the most competitive campaigns in the history of the English topflight.

While most of the traditional ‘big’ clubs got off to flying starts, there were others who were not so convincing but still managed to win their games.

The new season kickstarted on Friday with Manchester United taking on Leicester City.

Having endured a frustrating transfer window, the Red Devils went into their opening game without many of their first team players too.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side made the perfect start to the game after being awarded a penalty just two minutes into the game against the Foxes.

Back after winning the World Cup, Paul Pogba stepped up and expertly converted to give Man United the lead, albeit electing to take it over Alexis Sanchez.

Luke Shaw added another in the second half, before substitute Jamie Vardy scored a late consolation for Leicester to make it 2-1.

Elsewhere in London, Tottenham got off to a winning start after recording a hard-fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Spurs went down after just eight minutes but battled their way back to emerge victorious thanks to goals from Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli.

Saturday afternoon also saw Chelsea romp to a 3-0 win over a hapless Huddersfield to give Maurizio Sarri a perfect start to life in England.

Goals from summer signing Jorginho, Ngolo Kante and Pedro were enough to hand the Blues a big win at John Smith Stadium.

At Anfield, Liverpool sent a serious message to their title rivals with an emphatic 4-0 win over West Ham United.

Jurgen Klopps side needed just minutes to kick into gear, with usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Saido Mane both getting on the scoresheet.

The biggest fixture of the weekend was undoubtedly the game between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates stadium.

The Gunners came into the game with renewed hope, having seen Unai Emery replace Arsene Wenger at the helm.

However, the results didn’t go their way, with the defending champions emerging 2-0 winners, thanks to goals from Rahim Sterling and Bernardo Silva.
