Today In History: Berekum Chelsea win Ghana Premier League with 3 games to spare

On 18th May, 2011, which is exactly nine years today, Berekum Chelsea wrapped up the 2010/2011 Glo Premier League title with three matches to spare.

The Berekum lads became the second Brong Ahafo side to win the Ghanaian topflight league after Aduana Stars had won it in the 2009/2010 season.

With nine points at stake in the last three matches, the outcome of those matches will have no impact at the summit of the standings.

The feat was the biggest achievement in the history of the club formed barely a decade ago, before winning the championship and it came as no surprise because they led the league for much of the season.

The Berekum lads represented Ghana in the CAF Champions League and excelled, reaching the Group Stage of the competition as they rubbed shoulders with giants like Al Ahly, Zamalek and TP Mazembe in 2012.
