2016 Champions to earn $30k in prize money

"We made a proposal to the GFA and they have approved that the champions for the 2016 Ghana Premier League  will take home $30.000.

The winner of the 2016 Ghana Premier League can earn a maximum of 30.000 dollars in prize money alone, Premier League Board chairman Ashford Tettey Oku has revealed.

This is an improvement on last season's prize money in which Ashantigold pocketed a paltry 50.000 Ghana Cedis for winning the Ghana Premier League. But despite the domestic top-flight being without a sponsor after Capital Bank abrogated its deal with the Nation’s Football governing body prior to the start of the season, the Ghana Football Association is ready to fork out 30.000 USD from its own coffers to the winner of this season's Premier League.

Tettey Oku said: "We made a proposal to the GFA and they have approved that the champions for the 2016 Ghana Premier League  will take home $30.000."

"I think this is very marvelous, wonderful and the FA must be commended. Last year, the champions club (Ashgold) won 50.000 GHC when there was even a headline sponsor.
