Ex-captain of Accra Hearts of Oak offers advise to team ahead of Ghana Premier League season

Hearts of Oak legend, Yaw Amankwah Mireku has urged the current players of the club to handle the off-field issues properly if they hope to become the club’s greats.

The current players of the club have been chastised for their poor displays during the club’s opening pre-season games, but it seems they have found their rhythm going into the domestic top-flight championship this weekend.

And Amankwah Mireku who has seen it all, as he was part of the club’s squad that won the CAF Champions League in 2000 and captained the team four-years later to win the maiden edition of the Confederation cup has urged the current players to brush off comments they feel will distract them

“Being a player for a big team like Hearts of Oak, you have to be very strong,” Amankwah said.

“You have to be prepared for situations on and off the field and everything that happens within the world of football are because there are lots of eyes on you either wanting you to be successful or not.

“It’s difficult for players at big clubs to deal with these things. But any player who has been at the club for a long time has the capacity to deal with it and in doing so that player can become one of the club’s greats, he added.

Hearts of Oak will kick off their 2015/16 Ghana premier league at home to New Edubiase.
