However, Spain are moving in quickly to prevent Ghana from tying the youngster down after coach Vicente Del Bosque revealed plans to include him in the European championship.
“There’s also Inaki Williams at Athletic, whom we consider more of a striker than a wing player,” Del Bosque said, in addition to the mention of Alvaro Morata, Iago Aspas, PacoAlcacer, Diego Costa, Imanol Agirretxe, Borja Baston, Lucas Perez and Aritz Aduriz," he said
“He has great speed and is playing with the Spain under-21s. All of them are in my head and we will call on the ones we think are the most convenient. We will try to bring the best.”
Williams, born in Bilbao to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother, has signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao that includes a release clause of €50m to ward off interest from several English clubs.
Currently with six La Liga goals for Athletic Bilbao this season, he has been in impressive form since bursting onto the stage in 2014-2015.
Williams grabbed global attention last November, netting five times in three matches within a span of eight days – two La Liga matches and a Europa League tie.
