Tom Strand: Ghana Premier League isn't professionally organized

The Danish trainer has questioned the standards of the topflight league in Ghana

Tom Strand, head coach for Medeama SC thinks the inability of the Ghana Premier League to stick to a particular time table makes the league unprofessional.

The 2014-15 Ghana Premier League came to an end in September, 2015, but the organisers of the league had to wait until last week to announce a date for the start of the new league season, due to litigation.

Most of the clubs were confused on how to go about their pre-season in order not to peak at the wrong time ahead of the 2015-156 season and Medeama SC the champions of the FA are heavily affected as they prepare for Africa, because they won’t have enough competitions prior to their CAF Confederations Cup campaigns.

“It has to be a regular thing that when the league is supposed to come on, it has to be suspended. I don’t think that it has to be this way, because it is unprofessional and I know that the GFA doesn’t want to hear this and certainly not Ghana people.

“We want truthful and fair competition and especially professional and when we come to that point certainly Ghana football is going to rise up to be one of the best in Africa,” Tom Strand told Otec FM.

Medeama edged Asante Kotoko to become champions of the 2015 MTN FA Cup, but they are yet to hit form in the pre-season.

The date for the commencement of the new Ghana Premier League season is 20 February, 2016.
