Majeed Waris scores brace in Lorient win over Guingamp

The Ghana striker who was dropped from the Black Stars Afcon squad could have scored a hat-trick but missed a penalty on 82nd minute.

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris, who was dropped from the Black Stars Afcon squad, has responded with a brace for Lorient as they defeated Guingamp 3-1 in French Ligue 1.

The 25-year-old came from a come-back at the Stade Yves Allainmat - Le Moustoir after Yannis Salibur had opened the scoring for the visitors in the first-half.

But Waris fought restored parity for Lorient in the 72nd minute before Jimmy Cabot doubled the advantage for the Oranges.

Waris then sealed the win with a late strike in the 90th minute.

The striker has has now scored six goals for Lorient this season.

The player was snubbed by Black Stars Coach Avram Grant for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

His performance will raise further questions to what led to his exclusion from the Ghana team.

New signing Alhassan Wakaso could only watch the game from the bench for Lorient.
