The Los Angeles Angels bought their bats as they smashed MLB American League (AL) frontrunners the Baltimore Orioles 10-2 in a fine showing on their home turf.

Jered Weaver allowed two runs over seven innings against the in-form Orioles hitters as a five-run third without a single homer got the job done for the Angels on Sunday.

The Toronto Blue Jays claimed their series against the Minnesota Twins as a three-run opening inning was enough to get the visitors over the line in a 3-1 victory.

Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson struck homers before Troy Tulowitzki managed an RBI double as Marcus Stroman threw a one-hitter through to the eighth inning.

The New York Mets got up against the Milwaukee Brewers in a 3-1 win, the Seattle Mariners edged the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 and the Detroit Tigers were too good for the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4.

Max Scherzer notched eight strikeouts as he limited the Miami Marlins to two runs, helping the Washington Nationals to an 8-2 triumph, while the Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Atlanta Braves 5-0.

David Ortiz was at it again as he collected three RBIs and four hits to power the Boston Red Sox's 5-2 win over the Cleveland Indians, as the Chicago White Sox recorded a 3-2 victory against the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers accounted for the Houston Astros 9-2.

The Arizona Diamondbacks enjoyed a series-clinching 7-2 win over the St Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees overcame the Oakland Athletics 5-4, as the Los Angeles Dodgers needed 17 innings to beat the San Diego Padres 9-5 and the San Francisco Giants took a narrow 1-0 win against the Chicago Cubs.

Elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Pirates' home game against the Colorado Rockies was postponed.

PEREZ PILES ON THE PAIN
