There is always one question too many, even for Roger Federer and Serena Williams at the Australian Open.

We look at the talking points from Melbourne.

ONE TOO MANY

Williams had already answered three questions about Roberta Vinci when a fourth proved one too many. The world number one had just enjoyed a straightforward win when pressed on Vinci, the Italian who ended her Grand Slam dream in the US Open semi-finals at Flushing Meadows last year.

So, does Serena watch that match back? "Yeah, I watch it every day. Every night to get ready."

In case you were wondering, she was not being serious.

EVEN FOR FED

Even for the great Federer, who is almost impossible to upset, another question can be too many.

Speaking after his fine win over Alexandr Dolgopolov, the Swiss great was asked about betting companies sponsoring tournaments as match-fixing allegations continue to be a talking point at Melbourne Park.

"I answered that question the other day. Just check the transcript," Federer responded.

As the moderator tried to move the news conference on, the 17-time grand slam champion added: "My press conference last time, it's like a book. You check that one out."

POPULAR VERDASCO

Fresh from his stunning win over Rafael Nadal in the first round, Fernando Verdasco drew yet another crowd on Wednesday.

Court 14 was a popular place for a men's doubles match as Verdasco and Robin Haase combined to beat Jonathan Erlich and Colin Fleming in three sets.

There was little doubt Verdasco was the man many wanted to see after his remarkable victory over Nadal a day earlier.

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY

Melbourne's weather delivered in exceptional ways on the first two days, only to predictably change on Wednesday. Rain saw the start of play on outside courts delayed, but Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and Hisense Arena were all underway on time.

But just what do fans get up to during the wet weather? Not a lot.

Plenty wandered around waiting for play to resume, while others took their seats early and were content to look at damp courts for a while.
