The dominant world number one dismissed concerns over her knee in the first round and backed that up with a 6-1 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei's Hsieh on Rod Laver Arena.
Serena Williams powers into third round at Aus Open
Serena Williams powered past Hsieh Su-wei to book her place in the Australian Open third round on Wednesday.
With the roof open after Melbourne's weather cleared, Williams' power was simply too much for Hsieh to handle.
The world number 90 tried some craft with slices to get into the second-round match, but that barely troubled 21-time grand slam champion Williams.
Last year's winner Williams' only problem appeared to be over-hitting as she went after Hsieh's tame serve.
Williams, who produced a stunning forehand around the net during the victory, completed her win in an hour, closing it out to love and with an ace out wide.
