Centre O'Neill and back-rower Lowe will call North Queensland home for a further two seasons, with their contracts now set to expire at the end of the 2018 NRL campaign.

The duo helped the Cowboys to their maiden NRL title last year, outgunning Brisbane Broncos 17-16 in the Grand Final.

"It's a huge boost to be able to sign both those guys, who are probably just about coming into the prime of their careers," said coach Paul Green. "It's really good news for the club."

Since arriving from Melbourne Storm at the start of the 2015 season, O'Neill has scored 20 tries in 40 games.

The 25-year-old also made his State of Origin debut for Queensland in June, helping the Maroons to back-to-back series victories over New South Wales.

"Juz-e to be fair probably got off to a rocky start with us," Green said.

"He's really knuckled down, worked hard and improved his game, and topped off this year by being selected in the State of Origin team, so I'm really pleased for him. He's worked hard for everything he's got."

Lowe has featured in the Cowboys' squad since 2013 but the 25-year-old enjoyed a breakout season last year, playing in all 28 games as North Queensland won their first premiership.

Green added: "Lowey, he's developing along nicely. He's been in our system for quite a while. He has come through our Intrust Super Cup club, the Northern Pride."
