Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur is hoping for a positive update on the fitness of Kieran Foran after the half-back aggravated a shoulder problem in Monday's victory over Newcastle Knights.

The 25-year-old came off in clear discomfort during the first half at Hunter Stadium, a heavy tackle from Nathan Ross ending the Eels skipper's participation in the game.

Asked about Foran's fitness in the post-match news conference, Arthur said: "It's too early to say, but we knew going in his shoulder wasn't great.

"I've been told there's no structural damage, but we'll have to wait and see."

Parramatta let a 10-point lead slip against the Knights, before coming from 18-10 down to win a thrilling encounter.

Bevan French starred on debut for the Eels, scoring his side's third try and then producing a try-saving tackle on Ross in the 79th minute.

Arthur said of French: "He saved us the game at the end, didn't he? So he did pretty well.

"We've always known some blokes are just footballers and Bevan is one of them. He's still got a lot to learn and will take some time but he's done well for us."
