The American four-time overall champion overcame two small mistakes to claim a win by 0.58 seconds in Canada on Friday.

Vonn's time of one minute, 50.50 seconds was enough to beat Austrian duo Cornelia Hutter and Ramona Siebenhofer.

"That was not planned," Vonn said of her error, via the FIS website.

"I should probably not do that tomorrow. I don"t know, I came in there with a really direct line " probably a little bit too direct, and I caught my edge funny. I did the splits.

"I thought I was going down, then I somehow managed to stay on my feet.

"When I realised I was still in the course, I just got back into my tuck and tried to make up as much time as I could on the bottom."

Vonn is a seven-time downhill champion and now has 16 race wins at Lake Louise, and she can add to that on Saturday.
