Wigan Warriors succeeded where Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves failed as they ended Castleford Tigers' recent upturn in form with a 33-26 win in Super League.

Daryl Powell's Tigers had beaten the Rhinos and the Wolves in their last two league matches, but could not make it three in a row as Wigan ran in five tries at The Jungle.

Wigan were immediately on the front foot with Josh Charnley scoring the game's first try after just three minutes.

Castleford quickly hit back through Paul McShane, but a disallowed score from Denny Solomona allowed Wigan to seize the initiative, the visitors capitalising as Sam Tomkins restored their lead.

Two kicks from Matty Smith either side of Solomona's try ensured a 14-12 lead for the Warriors at the break and they extended their advantage after the restart with the Tigers a man short – Jake Webster having been sent to the sin bin.

Dom Manfredi, Charnley and Sam Powell all crossed as Wigan pulled clear before the hour, but Castleford hit back as Webster touched down following a powerful run.

The hosts thought they had grabbed a fourth try with 10 minutes to play through Luke Dorn, but the television match official ruled it out for a knock-on, and although Solomona did score his 20th of the season the hosts could not recover.

A Smith drop goal with four minutes to play sealed Wigan's win, moving them level with Hull FC at the top of the table.
