Frank Vogel has been named the new coach of the Orlando Magic, it was announced on Friday.

Vogel will succeed Scott Skiles, who resigned last week after the Magic went 35-47 in his first and only season as coach.

Orlando have failed to reach the NBA play-offs four seasons in a row, but won 10 more games in 2015-16 than the previous season.

"This group is ready to make that next jump," the 42-year-old Vogel said.

"My intention is to come in and make this happen for this group right away and make that jump [to the play-offs] this year.

"This is going to be a season about being on a mission and winning a lot of games."

Vogel joins Orlando from the Indiana Pacers, where he went 250-181 and reached the play-offs five times, going so far as the NBA Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014.
