Continuous rain in Pittsburgh forced a game between the Chicago Cubs and Pirates to end in a 1-1 tie with one out in the top of the sixth after a delay of one hour, 23 minutes.

The teams are not scheduled to play again this season, and the outcome does not figure into postseason positioning.

Major League Baseball ruled all stats will count despite the game being called.

The Cubs, who have already clinched the number one seed in the National League, gave their All-Stars a day off on Thursday, sending a backup lineup to face Ivan Nova, who pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four hits with five strikeouts.

Tim Federowicz drove in the lone run for the Cubs, while Josh Bell hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the third.

The last time a tie game occurred in MLB was June 30, 2005 with Houston playing at Cincinnati.

The 2-2 game was called due to rain after seven innings.
