Eoin Morgan hailed the displays of Moeen Ali and David Willey along with England's performance in the field as they survived a scare to defeat Afghanistan in the World Twenty20.

England recorded their second successive win in Wednesday's Super 10 Group 1 clash in Delhi but owed much to Moeen (41 not out) and Willey (20no) after they saved Morgan's men from a perilous position.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, England slumped to 57-6 and were 85-7 when Willey came to the crease to partner Moeen.

The duo promptly rescued the situation with an unbeaten stand of 57, hitting 44 off the final three overs to reach 142-7.

Willey then took two early wickets, including that of dangerman Mohammad Shahzad, as Afghanistan were quickly reduced to 13-3 and were never able to recover, England winning by 15 runs.

Morgan said: "I think we came here for a win and we won. Ultimately, to dissect the performance, we will do so before playing Sri Lanka.

"They [Afghanistan] play a great brand of cricket; if [you are] underperforming, you can come unstuck. We didn't adapt to the pitch - we didn't get that right.

"To get up to 143, Ali and Willey played really well. And I thought we fielded well and bowled well."

England's hopes of reaching the semi-final will hinge on their final Super 10 game with Sri Lanka at the same venue on Saturday.
