Australia captain Steve Smith plans to continue tweaking his team's batting order at the World Twenty20.

Usman Khawaja and Shane Watson have opened the batting for Australia to start the tournament, with a loss to New Zealand followed by a victory over Bangladesh.

David Warner has been used at number four, while Aaron Finch was overlooked for the opening two games.

Despite some criticism, Smith, whose team face Pakistan on Friday, will continue experimenting with the order.

"We have to sum up the situation before each game we play," he wrote in a column for Fox Sports.

"Right now the batting order is not set in stone - we have to weigh up what we think the best match-ups are against Pakistan, and against India after that.

"We've been using David Warner at number four so far but he's obviously been very destructive at the top of the order in the past, particularly in Indian conditions."

Smith said Finch, the world's top-ranked batsman in the T20 format, would get his chances at the tournament.

"We also have Aaron Finch waiting in the wings, who's been very unlucky to miss out so far," he wrote.

"As captain it’s part of my job to make sure the whole squad is doing OK both mentally and physically, and this is no exception with Finchy.

"He's a very dangerous player and he’ll certainly come into contention for selection in the next couple of games."
