Gold Coast Titans sealed a dramatic 28-24 win over Penrith Panthers with two minutes to spare to keep them in touch with the NRL top eight.

The Titans played catch up throughout Sunday's encounter at the Pepper Stadium and took the lead for the first time in the match when Anthony Don crossed for their fifth try.

Penrith made all the running thanks to tries from Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Tyrone Peachey and Josh Mansour, while Jamie Soward kicked eight points.

But the Titans kept coming back with scores of their own, Nathan Peats' debut try levelling things up at 18-18 with 15 minutes to play.

Leilani Latu's converted try five minutes later looked to have won it for the hosts, but Ash Taylor and Don had other ideas as the Titans moved level on points with the Panthers.

Canterbury Bulldogs strengthened their place in the top five as Tyrone Phillips ran in a hat-trick as they beat Sydney Roosters 32-20.

Phillips scored twice in the opening half hour as the Bulldogs raced into an 18-0 lead, and he completed his treble with nine minutes to play to end any hope of a Roosters comeback.

A Latrell Mitchell double had seen Sydney cut the Bulldogs' lead, but Phillips' third of the day ended the game as a contest.
