Jack Wilson scored a try in each half as Otago maintained their perfect start in the Mitre 10 Cup and extended Northland's losing streak to 14 games with a 33-28 win at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Otago headed into Wednesday's game at the top of the national provincial championship table after starting the season with back-to-back wins and made it three out of three in Dunedin.

Flanker Naulia Dawai and winger Wilson crossed in the first half and Fletcher Smith landed three penalties as Otago opened up a 19-11 lead at the break, with Matt Matich touching down for the bottom side after Peter Breen scored six points from the tee against his former club.

A converted Shane Neville try early in the second half reduced the deficit to a point, but Wilson dotted down again soon after and Matt Faddes gave depleted Otago breathing space with the bonus-point try.

Winger Jone Macilai's converted try in the last minute set up a tense finale, but Otago held on for another victory to leave Northland still without a win in the competition since 2014.
