KERBER'S RIVER DIVE

Kerber, fresh from her stunning three-set win over Serena Williams in the women's final the night prior, went for a Jim Courier-style dip.

The German jumped into Melbourne's Yarra River early on Sunday, matching what Jim Courier did in 1992.

The cold water appeared to come as a bit of a shock, just as Kerber's win for her maiden major title did.

Most locals consider the Yarra, in which a body was found floating on the same day, to be a disgusting no-go zone for swimmers.

SOARES DOES DOUBLE

Brazilian veteran Bruno Soares completed a pair of doubles victories, and they came on the same day.

Soares and Elena Vesnina teamed up to beat Coco Vandeweghe and Horia Tecau 6-4 4-6 10-5 in the mixed doubles final.

In the early hours of Sunday, Soares and Jamie Murray had clinched the men's doubles in thrilling fashion.

The 33-year-old now has four grand slam titles.

ENTHUSIASTIC FANS GRACE MELBOURNE PARK

There are only two matches on during the final day, but there were enthusiastic supporters aplenty.

Fans in kilts and wigs, as well as those draped in Serbian colours, arrived ahead of the final between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

ANDY FINALISES PREP

Murray had his final hit before the decider when he took to Hisense Arena hours out from his meeting with Djokovic.

The four-time runner-up appeared in a relaxed mood, having been up late the night before.

Murray was present to see his brother Jamie – and Soares – collect their trophy following their late doubles finish.
