Saracens full-back Alex Goode knows he will have a big role to play in stopping Dan Carter leading Racing 92 to European Champions Cup glory on Saturday.

Carter joined Racing after inspiring New Zealand to victory in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and is on the brink of further success with his club.

Saracens take on the fly-half's side in the final in Lyon on Saturday and Goode believes he will have an important part to play in stopping the 34-year-old dictating the play.

"Dan has a phenomenal ability to pin you back. There are so many times when he puts in a kick that is inch-perfect or a little dink into the corner which squeezes you," he told The Times.

"He allows their big players to be constantly on the front foot, so it is a huge job for me to win that sort of chess match, and not give him the space he wants."

With a potential European and Premiership double on the cards, Goode called for focus and determination to see Saracens over the line.

"I am very wary of the view that it is our destiny. We can get caught up in believing that and then forget that we have to work unbelievably hard in Lyon against an unbelievably good side," he said.

"We cannot just rely on somebody else to produce something. Every single one of us has to put in a massive performance.

"Yet if you look at the average age of our pack alone, the guys have played huge games in the semi-finals and final in Europe over the past three years and they’re still at around 25 or 26.

"That puts us in a very good place and perhaps we won't be overawed by the occasion, but we absolutely must turn up."
