Rugby New Zealand star Sonny Bill Williams wants improvement

All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams has vowed to improve after a mixed display during New Zealand's World Rugby Sevens Series victory against South Africa.

New Zealand star Sonny Bill Williams says this weekend's World Rugby Sevens Series victory has proved a huge learning experience for him.

Williams has starred in both rugby league and union during his career, helping the All Blacks to World Cup success in England last year.

The multi-talented back has opted to try his hand at sevens ahead of the Rio Olympics in August, and was part of the New Zealand side that came from 21-7 down to defeat South Africa 24-21 thanks to a last-minute try from Joe Webber in Wellington.

Williams had scored a try with his first touch against Russia on Saturday, but was guilty of dropping the ball from kick-off against South Africa while also erring with an offload.

"I know that I will get better," Williams said. "I'm really pleased with how I went this weekend to tell you the truth.

"The pleasing thing is being able to be in an environment where, even though I'm a rookie, everyone wants to help you out.

"I've come into this weekend taking it as a massive learning experience and I'm just grateful to be playing in such a talented side."

Coach Gordon Tietjens added: "I'm really pleased with Sonny.

"He's disappointed in a couple of things that he did but the good thing about Sonny is that he can put that behind him and just look to the next job.

"That's why he's so good. He's a perfectionist and he'll get it right."
