Saracens crush Leicester to keep double hopes alive

Chris Ashton and Chris Wyles shared four tries as double-chasing Saracens beat Leicester Tigers 44-17 to reach the Premiership final.

European champions Saracens moved a step closer to the double as they cruised into the Premiership final with a 44-17 victory over Leicester Tigers.

Seven days after lifting the European Champions Cup, the defending Premiership champions produced a ruthless display with four first-half tries at Allianz Park.

Leicester actually started the brighter as Manu Tuilagi went over after 40 seconds, but the England international's effort was ruled out for an earlier infringement and served only to spark Saracens into life.

Will Fraser was first to cross for the hosts after a flowing move involving Schalk Brits before Chris Wyles added the first of his two tries with an opportunistic finish.

Fellow winger Chris Ashton was soon in on the action with a 24th-minute try, before Wyles completed his scoring for the day with an unopposed run to the line having intercepted in his own half.

The trusty boot of Owen Farrell extended Sarries' advantage, but the England back was unable to finish the match after taking a heavy hit on the hour.

Saracens' 31-0 lead at the break should have led to a comfortable second period but Leicester were in no mood to give up and applied pressure through Telusa Veainu and Dom Barrow.

Ultimately the deficit proved too much for the Tigers, though, as Saracens booked a third successive final and fifth in the last seven seasons as Ashton completed his double with nine minutes to play.
