Sri Lanka replace Malinga with Vandersay
Sri Lanka have opted for the leg-spin of Jeffrey Vandersay as a replacement for Lasith Malinga's pace in their World Twenty20 squad.
Malinga was initially due to captain the side during their campaign in India, but was forced to miss the opening Super 10 victory over Afghanistan with a bone bruise to his left knee.
It was later revealed that the fast bowler had been ruled out of the tournament and sent home to rest, with Angelo Mathews deputising as skipper.
And on Saturday, Sri Lanka announced that Vandersay would take Malinga's place in the squad, ahead of their second Group 1 fixture against West Indies in Bangalore on Sunday.
Vandersay was included in Sri Lanka's Asia Cup squad but remained unused, before being dropped from the World T20 party in favour of Suranga Lakmal.
The 26-year-old leg-spinner has made four T20 international appearances, with one wicket to his name so far.
